Project Title:
James Town Community Theatre Centre Project for Health and Education

Project Summary:
Theatre for a Change and Act for Change implemented a 7 months project, finishing with a community-wide arts festival. The goal of the project is to improve the lives of young people in James Town, through reducing the incidents of gender-based violence and unplanned pregnancy and encouraging income generation through the arts. The youth of this community are brimming with creative energy and these workshops will channel these energies into transformative workshops which will in turn promote positive transformations in their neighbourhood. The groups will each have 10-15 participants and focus on one area of the arts whilst simultaneously making them aware of the financial and social issues that put them at risk. Using Theatre for a Change’s acclaimed ‘interactive theatre’ program, workshops explore sexual and reproductive health, gender rights and more. This will allow them to make informed choices on issues of sexuality, gender and human rights.
