THEATRE FOR CHANGE PROJECT – NIGHT BANK (2019-2020)

THEATRE FOR CHANGE PROJECT – NIGHT BANK (2019-2020)

As part of collaborative efforts to end teenage pregnancy in the Ga-Mashie communities, we partnered with a German online fundraising platform – Night Bank to mobilize financial resources to fund ten Interactive Theatre performances in schools, churches and some selected community groups.

Our key methodology, Interactive Theatre performances was used to be an engaging and interactive way to share knowledge with young people and parents about teenage pregnancy and to encourage participants (audience/spec-actors) to offer suggestions to resolve the issue. During these interactive theatre performances, a unique tool called “Touch-Tag” was used to highlight critical moments at the end of each scene and the audience is invited to suggest alternative solutions. The audience (Spec-actors) are tasked to find different ways of solving the issues identified in real life by acting out the solutions.

We were able to organize seven theatre performances in schools, a church and the community namely; Wesley Methodist Junior High School, St. Marys Seniour High School, Sacred Heart Seniour High School, James Town DUNK’s basketball court, Sempe Cluster of School, God wisdom International Preparatory School and Mission To Nation Church with over 1500 audience reached. We are working with our local focal persons to identify the last three locations for our performances. Progress report was sent to Night Bank detailing the number of performances, rehearsals conducted and financial report.

The performance has a key message to the audience and is about galvanizing support for our campaign to end teenage pregnancy in Ga-Mashie. Additionally, the performance encourages the audience to be assertive, practice safer sex and promote support for teenage mothers.
